Mammoth Vacation Planning

Are you planning your mountain getaway winter trip to Mammoth Mountain this year? Great! No matter whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, enjoying our cross country skiing trails or getting outside on a snowmobile tour, it’s important to know the lay of the land.  Our staff has tons of knowledge about how to get the most out of your visit with us and we love sharing it with our guests. Check out these tips and tricks below for what to know so that you feel like a local during your vacation.

1. Stay Up To Date With The Mammoth Mountain App

The official Mammoth Mountain App offers access to the latest on trail conditions and weather reports that are updated in real time. You can also order food ahead at many of our off hill restaurants to skip the line and get some body fuel after a long day on the mountain. Download the Mammoth Mountain App here.

2. Skip The Ticket Window And Buy Tickets Online

We all know that getting to the mountain and being stuck waiting in a long ticket line while the mountain opens and others get to the fresh powder is no fun, but you can avoid that with this simple tip. Visit this page to purchase tickets online. Then, once you have purchased your tickets online you can skip the ticket window and pick your tickets up in one of the Express Ticket Boxes and then you just head to the lift and start your day. Learn more about the Express Ticket Boxes and the process to pickup your tickets here.

3. Use Our Free Shuttle And Don’t Worry About Parking

Waking up earlier to get that sweet best location parking space in the parking lots? Dreading driving home after a long and tiring day on the mountain? Don’t want to be stuck in traffic to and from the mountain? Use our town’s free mountain shuttle and let someone else do the driving. The shuttle takes routes around town and to all of our mountain base lodges. Learn more about routes and schedules here.

4. Visit the Local Hot Springs

While many of our vacation rentals in Mammoth Mountain come with a hot tub or jacuzzi, whether private or shared, there is nothing like a natural hot spring to close out the day. Soaking away the sore muscles from a good day on the mountain in one of the many hot springs that occur naturally or in man made pools with natural water are a much more authentic and serene option. The locals favorite, Wild Willy’s Hot Springs  is just a short drive south down the I-395 from Mammoth Mountain, then a 10 minute walk down a wooden pathway.. As this is an undeveloped spring, please make sure to plan to pack out whatever you pack in.

5. Take A Gondola Ride To The Top

Even if you’re not here to ski or ride, you can still enjoy the breathtaking views from the top of the mountain. By taking the Panorama Gondola from either the Main Lodge or McCoy Staion to the summit of Mammoth Mountain, you can soak in all the views our mountain top has to offer. Enjoy a beverage at the Eleven53 Cafe or just walk around the summit and soak in the breathtaking scenery. Day ticket pricing and information can be found here.

6. Explore June Lake

Mammoth Mountain’s sister mountain is June Mountain, about 20 miles on the I-395 from Mammoth Mountain. This is a great spot for families or beginners, as you can avoid the crowds and still get out and enjoy the mountains. The tranquil little town of June Lakes around June Lake offers a small town vibe with friendly locals and casual dining and drinks. Make sure to visit June Lake Brewing Company during your trip to soak in it’s unique atmosphere.

No matter what reason you’re visiting and staying with us in one of our Mammoth Mountain vacation lodging options, we have the inside scoop. If you didn’t find what you were looking for here, or just want to get going on booking your Mammoth ski in ski out rental, contact us and we’re happy to help. See you on the slopes!
