Recommendations for planning a WFH vacation in Mammoth

Choosing the right condo for your WFH vacation is the first step in staying connected while in the mountains. But, here are a few additional tips for boosting productivity during your Mammoth Lakes vacation.

Keep an eye on the weather

It’s amazing how being able to work remotely can open up the possibilities for more flexible travel. But, it’s important to keep in mind that weather up here in the mountains can complicate things.

For one thing, snow on the roads can delay arrival times as well as your movements around town. A quick trip to the store in good weather, for instance, might take you much longer than expected when it’s snowing out. So, you’ll want to consider that when you’re planning work meetings and dealing with deadlines.

Winter storms can also impact connectivity depending on how severe the conditions are out there. So, even though all of our condos are equipped with high-speed internet, you may find yourself with interrupted or slow service when there’s a heavy storm.

Consider bringing extension cords

This isn’t 100% necessary as all of our condos are outfitted with power outlets in the living areas. But, they can give you more flexibility on how you use the space in your condo! If you want to work from the couch or the balcony, for instance, an extension cord can keep you connected wherever you choose to settle in and work.

Be mindful of where your condo is located

Here at Mammoth Mountain Reservations, we have condos throughout town. Some are closer to Canyon Lodge while others are nestled right in the middle of downtown Mammoth.

Which location is better for your working vacation will depend on how you plan on organizing your trip. For instance, if you’ll be working from home all day and then using your evenings and weekends for play, a condo closer to downtown can be a good option, as you’ll be closer to restaurants and grocery stores. In this case, keep your eye on our downtown Mammoth rentals.

But, if you want to break up the workday with time on the mountain, then being as close to the slopes is a better strategy. Condo complexes like Mountainback, Discovery 4, or Mammoth Ski & Racquet Club are located steps away from Canyon Lodge.

Drink lots of water and take breaks

If you’ve visited Mammoth before, you probably have already experienced the effects of high altitude while skiing, hiking, or simply walking around town. But, you might be surprised to find that altitude sickness can affect your job performance, at least for the first few days.

Make sure to drink plenty of water to lower the risk of headaches and eye strain. And, if you’re going to be leading team meetings, keep in mind that you might find yourself getting winded more quickly than normal. You may even experience a bit of mild brain fog, which is common at altitudes of 10,000 feet or higher.

Don’t worry, your body should adjust in a matter of days, as long as you stay hydrated, limit alcohol, and get good sleep.
