Many people come here to ski or snowboard without even thinking of the possibilities of climbing some ice in the high country or hitting the rock in Owens River Gorge.
South of
Mammoth Lakes, is one of the most enjoyed crags in
this area. The Owens River Gorge is a rock
climbers haven with the possibility of climbing year
round.
In the winter, you will just need to pay attention to the snow levels and
probably plan on staying on the sunny side of the gorge to climb.
Non the less, think about the fun of hitting the ski slopes in the morning
and then the rock in the afternoon!
Ohhh, the stories that you could tell!
If you
prefer staying in the cold, there are various areas
close to Mammoth Lakes in which you could enjoy some
fine ice as well as mixed routes.
